3rd edition of Dia de Los Muertos returns to the Valley Mall in El Monte

On Saturday, October 27th, 2012 The Nuvein Foundation in partnership with the Downtown El Monte Business Asssociation will organize the 3rd annual Dia de Los Muertos celebration at the Valley Mall, in Dowtown El Monte. The event will run from 11am to 6pm.

Nuvein’s  Dia de Los Muertos will take place at the Valley Mall along Valley Blvd and Valley Mall Blvd. The event will boast a curated art gallery entitled ‘Callejon, Calacas, y Cultura’ along the Valley Mall, artists and artisans vending their traditional art, crafts, and wares in an outdoor Mercado facing Valley Blvd, a stage hosting traditional performance of mariachi, musical conjuntos, flamenco and ballet folklorico, poet(a)s and poem(a)s, as well as Aztec Danza between both avenues, as well as an arts installation by Arturo Lopez of Arte Cabalturo Studio in La Puente.

Nuvein’s Dia de los Muertos began in 2010 and drew a crowd of over 3,500 El Monte and SGV locals, and the 2011 year rose that number to just under 5,000. As the event enters its third year, both the Nuvein Foundation and the Downtown El Monte Business Association estimate the number to increase  as the event gains momentum over time.

The event this year is of remarkable note, as it takes place during El Monte’s Centennial year. For this reason,  the Nuvein Foundation happily offers any success in this event as a shining example of the Hispanic community’s many contributions to El Monte’s storied history, proving that a common tradition among all cultures is the celebration of life, even after death.

All of us here at the Nuvein Foundation hope to see all of El Monte’s community members, and all of you wonderful gente at our annual event this October.

See you there!
