Meet the Team

Our board is a mosaic of cultures, backgrounds, artistic interests/passions, voices and visions. We aim to provide arts education programs, supports, and resources, encourage emerging and aspiring artists within their community and showcase the rise of arts and culture across the SGV region. Each member of Nuvein is a volunteer and not a single person gets a salary from our fundraising efforts. All money raised goes back into the community through our current projects.

Nuvein presents the 4th Annual Dia de Los Muertos – El Monte

Since October 2010, the Nuvein Foundation for Literature and the Arts has organized a yearly Dia de Los Muertos public outdoor event in the City of El Monte with the partnership, support, and sponsorship of the Downtown El Monte Business Association.

Every year, this event brings thousands to the Valley Mall area of El Monte to celebrate art, culture, community, and tradition.

This year’s 4th Annual Dia de Los Muertos – El Monte will showcase a full program complete with:

An outdoor gallery exhibition entitled ‘Arte y Altares’ a DDLM Exhibition, where artists are invited to participate with works of art inspired by the culture, traditions, and customs behind Dia de Los Muertos as well as create custom altar pieces to commemorate loved ones. Art submissions and altar creation requests are still being taken. For more information, please contact the curators

The Nuvein Foundation has invited several well known, emerging, published, and active poetry and spoken word performers from across Southern California to lend their voices, spirit, and passion to this growing event.

This year’s special guest poetic/spoken word performers are:

Karineh Mahdessian
Abram Gomez
Iris De Anda
Roberto Blanco
Xochitl Julissa-Bermejo
Henry Olivas
Jessica Ceballos
David Romero

We will profile each of these incredible spoken word performers in the next few days.

ddlm2010Also featured at this event will be performances and participation by:

El Monte Television (EMTV Channel 3) who will be providing the event with one of the two colorful guests hosts for this event. This event will be taped by the crew of EMTV Channel 3.

Mid Valley Radio (KMVR) will also be participating by providing the event with a special guest host, Lucia Flores, hostess of the popular ‘Rockin Rolas’ online radio program on KMVR.

DJ Quinto Sol Entertainment managed by Jesus Montoya, will provide a professional event sound and performance audio service that will surely set the right tone and liven up the mood throughout the event as our invited Event Sound System Manager and Engineer.

Danza Cuauhtemoc of Baldwin Park will open up the event with an invocation and traditional danza azteca ceremony and performance, providing a rich cultural backdrop and mystical and communal ambience of unity, culture, and tradition that will guide the event from beginning to the end.

Mariachi Los Pasajeros from Pico Rivera will provide the event with traditional mariachi music performance and will move the crowd to sing along and remember moments and memories of their native land of their ancestry and invite others to immerse themselves in Mexican culture and tradition.

Tlalliyolo Corazon de la Tierra, a juvenil/youth ballet folklorico group from Los Angeles will surely move our hearts to joy and wonder as their colorful display of traditional garb, music, and dance inspire us to take in the tapestry of traditions surrounding Dia de Los Muertos.

The Reyes Project, a latin rock unit, and invited guest performance courtesy of Arturo Esparza, producer of the ‘El Monte Tonight’ show on EMTV Channel 3, will surely get the crowd moving and grooving to the sounds of Latin rock.

Kalpulli Tlaltekuhtli, a traditional Danza Azteca group hailing from East Los Angeles will then round out the event, and bring the event back into the context of culture, tradition, and art.

A more detailed write up on this year’s performers will be forthcoming.

We hope to see you Saturday, October 19th, at the Valley Mall!
